The winner of last Saturday’s £2.3 million National Lottery jackpot discovered he had become a millionaire just hours after divorcing his ex-wife, who has absolutely no claim for any of the lottery cash. The National Lottery jackpot winner left his wife over a year ago and started a lengthy legal process but is now divorced and looking forward to the future with his new partner.

Kevin Halstead, a 50-year-old bus driver from Chorley in Lancashire shared the £4.6 million National Lottery jackpot on Saturday night just hours after he received the decree absolute from his divorce. Lottery winner Halstead had been out with friends celebrating the end of a difficult period for him when he spent the last pound out of his pocket to buy a ticket for that night’s National Lottery draw, went home and thought no more of it.

The very next morning, still suffering from a hangover Mr Halstead realised that the beginning of the rest of his life not only meant that he was officially a single man again but it also meant he was over £2 million richer too.

When asked about her ex-husband become the latest of Britain’s millionaire lottery winners, Helen Halstead, 48, replied buy saying “All I will say is I won £5 on a scratchcard on Saturday!”
