Nigel Page a 44 year lottery winner from Gloucester who picked up £56 million earlier this year was forced to give a share of his winnings to his ex wife. Nigel was sued by his ex wife even though she left him and ran off with another man back in the year 2000 taking his daughter with her. His ex wife Wendy took Nigel to court and originally wanted an £8 million chunk of his fortune but the Euromillions winner settled out of court agreeing to pay her £2 million. This is the first time a lottery winner in the UK has been successfully sued for a share of their winnings and is sure to send shivers down the spines of divorced winners everywhere.

Mr Pages win last February was the countries third biggest jackpot and he is said to be “really gutted” at what has happened. Friends of the Euromillions winner say he was left heartbroken when his wife walked out taking their three year old daughter with her but still offered her £1 million after his win. This however was not enough for Wendy who works as a human resources director at an investment firm who sought legal advice to battle for even more.

The divorced couple always got on well and he always provided for his daughter even when he was unemployed but now their relationship has been ruined after seven months that Nigel describes as horrendous. The £2 lump sum will go to his ex wife after a bid to try and get the money paid into a trust for his daughter failed. It is also believed that Wendy achieved a huge increase in maintenance payments for their daughter. Wendy sought legal advice after finding out that Nigel was planning to give money to other relatives after his big win.

It is not all bad news though because after his Euromillions win he married his new girlfriend and they are now living in a £6.5 million six bedroom mansion next door to the actress Liz Hurley after giving his old house to their cleaner.
