A 59-year-old carer from the Cornish town of St Just was just minutes away from being too late to buy his winning lottery ticket. Roger Gillespie rushed to the newsagent where he always buys his lottery tickets and managed to buy a lucky dip just seconds before the National Lottery terminals close down at 7:30pm but lucky for him that he did, as the last minute lottery ticket won a jackpot of £2,969,627.

Following his close shave with the 7:30pm deadline Mr Gillespie checked the lottery numbers and believed that he had matched five main lottery numbers. In a state of excitement he called his daughter and asked her to come and confirm his good fortune but when the lottery winner’s daughter arrived she checked the lottery ticket and discovered that her father had actually matched all six main lottery numbers and was the solitary jackpot winner.

Mr Gillespie is a full-time carer for his granddaughter and the National Lottery windfall will certainly help out. He has already placed his three-bedroom stone cottage up for sale, probably with the intention of buying somewhere more comfortable with his new found lottery wealth. In the only statement that the lucky Cornish lottery winner has given, Mr Gillespie said that he intends to spend his lottery riches on his family.

If you want the chance to win lottery riches there’s never been a better time to buy tickets as the UK National Lottery, Irish Lottery, Powerball Lottery and Mega Millions Lottery all have massive rollover jackpots to play for and remember that you can by online lotto tickets by clicking the tabs at the top of the page.
