The US Powerball was won by one lucky ticket holder from Kansas on Wednesday night. The Powerball jackpot had grown to an enormous $96.6 million by the time it was won, making the lucky winner one of the biggest Powerball winners in history.
Donald Damon, a 70-year-old retired truck driver from Kansas, US could hardly believe what he was being told when he was informed of the staggering size of his lottery win. Mr Damon thought he may have won $20 million but when Multi-State Lottery officials told him just how rich he now was, he simply couldn’t believe it, stating that he nearly fell to the floor when he heard the news.
The Damon family have seen some tough time recently and this lottery jackpot win couldn’t have come at a better time. Back in January Donald was forced to retire from his job as a truck driver and just a couple of months ago his daughter, Karen, lost her job meaning that Donald’s wife, Kathleen had been holding down three jobs just to make ends meet.
