It had to finally go at some point and it has. The Italian state lottery, the Super Enalotto has finally been won after failing to find a winner since January. There has been a huge increase in the number of people who have bought tickets for the Super Enalotto as the rollover jackpot grew and media interest had risen to a point of frenzy.
Once the jackpot surpassed the previous biggest jackpot in it’s 12 year history which was €100m, the lottery had people flocking for a chance to win the monumental jackpot. The winning ticket to last nights’ Super Enalotto draw was sold from a small coffee bar in Bagnone, a small village nestled in the Tuscan hillside about 70 miles northwest of Florence. Local sources have said that the lucky lottery winner is a 47 year old local man from the village. Staff and locals popped bottles of sparkling wine outside the bar last night, before they were asked to quieten down so other villagers could watch the end of the AC Milan football match which was being shown there.
As both the rollover jackpot and the lottery frenzy grew people were flying into Italy from other countries to buy tickets for Super Enalotto in the hope of scooping the big prize. A newspaper in Germany even ran a competition where the winners were flown out to Italy and were given money to buy a ticket for the draw. However not everybody was thrilled and excited about the lottery buzz that enveloped Italy. Roman Catholic Church officials denounced the game, with Bishop Domenico Sigalini saying it was “immoral†for the government to encourage it.
It had to go at some time and for one lucky Italian man the biggest lottery jackpot in Italian history will soon be in his bank account. If you want a shot at another monster lottery jackpot you can buy tickets for the US Mega Millions lottery which has a massive $252 million jackpot up for grabs.
