A 59-year-old carer from the Cornish town of St Just was just minutes away from being too late to buy his winning lottery ticket. Roger Gillespie rushed to the newsagent where he always buys his lottery tickets and managed to buy a lucky dip just seconds before the National Lottery terminals close down at 7:30pm but lucky for him that he did, as the last minute lottery ticket won a jackpot of £2,969,627.

Two sisters from Connecticut are locked in a furious battle over a $500,000 Powerball Lottery win. The two women, who are in their 80’s, used to play slots together at casinos and buy lottery tickets together, with a contract even being drawn up which stated that any lottery winnings would be shared equally. However, the sisters fell out in 2004 and one sister tore up their contract thinking that would end the agreement but this proved to not be the case.

An Arizona woman who thought she had won $1,000 playing a lottery scratchcard was left feeling desperately unhappy as opposed to jumping for joy as the lottery scratchcard winner ended up losing. Sheri Galvez, from Arizona went to collect her lottery winnings but instead of leaving with her cash she was given a cheque for $0.00 and was told that the money was reclaimed by the state to pay for unsettled traffic tickets and to recover overpaid unemployment benefits.
