Last month, we bought you the story of brothers Andy and Nayel Askhar, who won a whopping $5 million on a scratch card purchased at the parents store in Syracuse, New York. Their story was unusual as they waited six years to claim their prize, as – unlike lottery winnings on the Powerball or Megamillions which must be claimed within 90 days to a year – scratch cards prizes don’t expire until a year after the end of the game. However, it has come to light in the first few days that the ticket actually belonged to another customer of the store, and the brothers have been charged with scamming the winning ticket from its rightful owner! New York Brothers Wait Six Years to Claim $5M Lottery Win

When people win a big lottery prize normally players make a claim for their winnings in the first few weeks for fear of losing their winning ticket. However, it has emerged that some lottery winners from American waited a lot longer than a few weeks to claim their prize. Shopkeeper Tried to Steal Grandmothers Winnings

A dishonest shopkeeper has this week been convicted of trying to claim a Grandmother’s life changing winnings as his own. 77 year old Maureen Holt whose 80 year old husband still works for a security firm took her lottery ticket into the Best One Convenience Store in Oldham but shopkeeper Farrakh Nizzar aged 30 checked the ticket and told her she was not a winner even through she had actually struck it lucky on the EuroMillions millionaire raffle. Powerball Winner Tapes Ticket to Chest

Matthew Packebush a United States Air Force veteran from Hutchinson has come forward to claim a Match 5 Powerball cash prize worth $1 million after taping the winning ticket to his chest for safe keeping. Matthews winning numbers were 07, 15, 20, 41, 44 and Powerball 10 and although he missed out on winning the Powerball jackpot by just one number he is thrilled to have won a life changing amount of money.
