South Wales is the latest area to receive Big Lottery Fund Wales grants to assist with local projects. Communities in South Wales will benefit from lottery cash to the tune of nearly £1 million in the latest distribution of National Lottery good causes money.

Wales’¢ capital, Cardiff has received the lion’s share of the grants with just under half a million pounds being secured by the Somali Integration Society project. This vital project operates regular drop-in sessions, advice and support to help encourage people from the Somali community to integrate into Welsh society.

The South Wales valley town of Merthyr Tydfil was given a lottery cash boost. Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil has been awarded £160,000 spread over the next three years which will pay for a full-time project officer as well as helping with running costs of the scheme itself.

In the Rhondda Cynon Taff area the organisation Advocacy Matters (Wales) received nearly a quarter of a million pounds to continue the success of working with people who suffer learning difficulties. The lottery award will mean that an additional 70 people get assistance in understanding their rights and will be able to get vital support in tackling a wide range of issues.

The Big Lottery Fund make even more lottery winners by assisting project across Britain, which cover a wide range of different causes from helping war veterans revisit far flung counties where they fought in the war to building play areas and redeveloping parks and gardens across the country.
