Once again yet another British institution has been sold to foreign investors. This time the UK National Lottery has been sold to the Canadians. The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, the largest occupational retirement scheme in Canada has agreed to pay £389 million to operate the UK National Lottery until 2019, providing that the sale is approved by National Lottery Commission.

Last night the National Lottery continued the trend of giving away its two or three million pound jackpot to multiple lottery winners. Four ticket holders matched all six main lottery numbers to win a share of the £2.2 million jackpot meaning that once again the National Lottery jackpot winners got less than a million each. In fact, last night’s winners will only receive just over half a million each.

An Arizona woman who thought she had won $1,000 playing a lottery scratchcard was left feeling desperately unhappy as opposed to jumping for joy as the lottery scratchcard winner ended up losing. Sheri Galvez, from Arizona went to collect her lottery winnings but instead of leaving with her cash she was given a cheque for $0.00 and was told that the money was reclaimed by the state to pay for unsettled traffic tickets and to recover overpaid unemployment benefits.
