Once again yet another British institution has been sold to foreign investors. This time the UK National Lottery has been sold to the Canadians. The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, the largest occupational retirement scheme in Canada has agreed to pay £389 million to operate the UK National Lottery until 2019, providing that the sale is approved by National Lottery Commission.

Royal Mail to sell its National Lottery shares

The Royal Mail has changed its decision to retain the 20% share in the UK National Lottery operator Camelot. After pressure from other Camelot shareholders the Royal Mail is to sell its National Lottery shares and take the £60-70 million which is thought to be on offer when the next round of bidding for Camelot takes place in January.

National Lottery could be bought by overseas lottery operator

The company that operates the UK National Lottery is to auction 80% of the business next month as four of the National Lottery’s five shareholders have decided to cash in their shares. This leaves a great deal of uncertainty as to who will eventually own the National Lottery, with the possibility that the National Lottery could be bought by an overseas lottery operator.
