The Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded a £440,000 lottery grant to the Museum of Cardiff. The Museum of Cardiff will be a new dedicated city museum which will tell the story of Cardiff rich history. It has been 85 years since Cardiff last dedicated city museum closed its doors but thanks to National Lottery cash a new exhibition will be displayed in Cardiff’s Victorian grade II listed Old Library building.

The new National Lottery funded museum will display over 8,000 artefacts which are currently being exhibited at the National Museum Cardiff in nearby Cathays Park. The city of Cardiff has many tales to tell from stories of sailors crossing the Atlantic to more recent historic events like Cardiff City Football Club winning the English FA Cup.

Along with the 8,000 plus artefacts held at the National Museum Cardiff, the new lottery funded Museum of Cardiff will also feature other artefacts from residents along with the fascinating stories which accompany them, which will make the new Museum of Cardiff an intriguing journey into Cardiff of yesteryear.

Once again the Heritage Lottery Fund is helping to preserve national treasures for future generations to benefit from.
