Record Breaking 2011 for Lottery Winners

2011 was a record breaking year for lottery winners in the UK seeing an extra 229 millionaires added to the rich list with twenty five of those coming from the Euromillions draw on 23rd December thanks to the Millionaire Raffle. During the past twelve months over £720 million has been paid out in prizes changing the lives of ordinary people up and down the country and 2012 looks set to continue the extraordinary trend so make sure you are taking part!

Last year there were seventy one more millionaires created compared to the previous year with the biggest jackpot going to Colin and Chris Weir from Ayrshire who scooped a massive £161 million from the Euromillions results back in July. A National Lottery spokesman says “It’s been an extraordinary year for our players. There have been some huge prizes paid out during the last twelve months and we’ve also been told that many of our big winners have created additional millionaires themselves as a result of their win, which is fantastic.”

Several huge Lotto jackpots were paid out in 2011 including £101 million going to the very generous Dave and Angela Dawes from Wisbech who drew up a list of twenty members of their friends and family making them all instant millionaires. Other notable winners include Matt Breach from Battle in East Sussex who won a triple rollover jackpot of almost £18 million in March and a syndicate of sixteen Asda workers who shared nearly £7 million in October.

Since the National Lottery first launched in 1994 it has created more then 2,750 millionaires but more importantly it has also raised of £25 billion for good causes.
